“Know It 2 Win It” is a fun program created and implemented by the Northland Coalition. By design, the program includes an educational component for 7th graders to develop skills needed to identify accurate and reliable alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) information on the internet as well as local available resources. The parent component is important because it gives the youth and parent(s) the opportunity to discuss ATOD issues, allows both youth and parent to identify accurate facts of ATOD, and reinforces to the youth the negative effects of ATOD. The number one way to reduce the likelihood of a child engaging in substance abuse is active communication between parent/child. This program serves as an enhancement, or booster program, for the school’s comprehensive drug prevention curriculum.
