Our Vision
The Northland communities will be healthy and safe environments in which to raise children.
Our Mission
Through community involvement and sharing of resources, the Northland Coalition will develop programs and pursue environmental strategies that send a unified message that alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by minors, or associated violent behavior, is not acceptable.
History/Background
The Northland Coalition was formed in 2001 to fulfill the articulated need for better collaboration of substance abuse prevention programs and strategies throughout the Kansas City Northland. The Coalition meets monthly to strategize and rally support to prevent high risk behaviors including underage drinking, illicit drug use, and violence throughout Clay, Platte and Ray counties. Throughout the last 10 years, the Northland Coalition has been recognized regionally and nationally for their program and policy outcomes.
Northland Coalition membership is open and anyone interested in keeping our community safe and healthy is encouraged to get involved. It is our philosophy that substance abuse is a communal problem and its solution is everyone’s responsibility. Parents, schools, businesses, law enforcement, health agencies, community leaders and religious institutions all play an important role in creating a safe and healthy environment for our youth to thrive. The Northland Coalition serves to help strategize to make this possible.
